VERTICAL HETEROPHORIA
Vertical Heterophoria is a condition that I for one had never heard of before. Only recently did I stumble upon this ailment. It seems that the many symptoms of vertical heterophoria mimic many of the vestibular disorders. Heterophoria is a misalignment of the eyes. One eye happens to be higher than the other one. This difference can not be seen with the naked eye and so requires specific testing. As far as I am aware you can be born with the condition with symptoms appearing much later in life. Brain injury or other neurological ailments can also be a cause. The vertical misalignment between the eyes can result in extreme problems. Fortunately this particular problem can be corrected in the office by an eye specialist who deals with Vertical Heterophoria. How is it treated? simply by wearing a pair of glasses with tailored Prism lenses.
If you are like me then you have probably had numerous tests and explanations for your vertigo and dizziness. You will have completed vestibular rehab and taken many medications over the months or years, all without success. Maybe taking a serious look into vertical heterophoria would be time worth investing especially if every other avenue has been explored.

I am not sure if testing and treatment for this condition is available in the UK, I hope it is as I will certainly be looking to get tested for it. I guess the best bet would be to ask around your local opticians (optometrist) to see if they can test for vertical heterophoria or maybe ask your doctor if you could be referred to an eye specialist known as an opthalmologist.
